A cloudy day in the spring of 1899. The wind sweeps across the sea, creating small white caps. The old lighthouse keeper OTTO goes about his daily tasks. As he trudges into the mudflats, he is startled: a young man lies motionless on the shore. Upon closer inspection, Otto realizes that the boy is still breathing.
